Located on the north shore of Breiðafjörður Bay, Rauðasandur is a large coastal expanse of orange red sands, as indicated by its name in Icelandic. Basalt columns form a raised pavement along the beach. A trail leads to Látrabjarg. The northern coast of Breiðafjörður is very cut. Offshore, many islets invaded by grey birds and seals.
