The main activity of this small town of around 1,100 inhabitants is fishing (scallops are the local specialty), although in recent years it has become an important commercial center. It's a pleasant place to stop off for a bite to eat. The town center is dotted with beautiful wooden houses. The view of the bay from here is superb. The port is home to the trawler fleet, protected from storms by beautiful basalt organ cliffs (Súgandisey), and is dominated by a small yellow and red lighthouse that lights up the surrounding area. The ferry and tourist boats also depart from here.
