In the 7th century, Calmin founded a monastery there, descendant of a Roman senatorial family, Count of Auvergne, and Duke of Aquitaine and his wife Namadie. The relics of Saint Calmin and Saint Austremoine - the first bishop of Auvergne - made Mozac an important pilgrimage centre in the 9th century. The annexation to Cluny in 1095 will make known to the abbey and the town of Cluny some splendid hours. During the Revolution, the last religious were expelled. The installation of a Volvic lava enamelling plant in 1882 made Mozac the world cradle of enamelled lava. Today, a craft workshop perpetuates this activity and produces, among other things, orientation tables.
