A town of potters since the Gallic period, Lezoux is known throughout the world as the capital of the Gallo-Roman sigillata. Levuzian ceramics have been found as far away as Prussia and England! But this should not make us forget that the city was also the first Christian centre in the region. It also had a certain importance in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the presence of a coin workshop and a watchtower. Later to become the good city of Auvergne, it developed its activity notably around its three fairs, a fourth being created in 1798. Its weekly market was also renowned, especially for the sale of melons. Industry will take over at the turn of the 20th century, with agriculture turning to livestock farming. Lezoux currently owns a large oil mill and a plywood factory. Another of his specialties is gaperon.
