Shortly after Agua Retorta, a secondary road leads off to the left towards Faial da Terra, a picturesque little town somewhat reminiscent in location of certain towns on the island of Madeira. An exciting alternative, this asphalt road takes us through typical Azorean countryside. A viewpoint at the start of the descent offers a lovely view of the village. From the village, a beautiful 2-hour walk (round trip) leads to the Salto do Prego, a pretty waterfall surrounded by fragrant pittosporum. You'll also discover the small village of Sanguinho, long abandoned and now restored as a self-catering cottage.
