Pralus is a favourite with the greedy. Let's be fair and let's give Pralus back its Loire origin and the excellence of its know-how in terms of praline brioche, pastries and chocolate. One of the last to work directly with cocoa beans to obtain great vintages presented with care in wooden cases. Success guaranteed in a gourmet city where people rush to savour the Praluline as well as to offer chocolates with a unique taste, sold with a smile and in the right way.

PARTISAN BOULANGER

Bakery
5/5
1 review

It's worth waiting until the end of the week and getting up early (there won't be enough for everyone), to savor the breads of Bastien Malugani. A committed baker who puts his heart and soul into his work. High-quality raw materials: pure organic cereal flour, unrefined Guérande salt, churned butter... The tedious work is made up of tricks of the hand, know-how and a raw, refined passion to be shared between two bags of flour. The Canuses baguettes are magical, as are the traboules, the seasonal fruit tarts to die for, as are the kouign-amann or kannelbullar and the croissants that would get anyone out of bed.

MAISON MALARTRE

4.6/5
5 reviews

In Lyon, there are names that are immediately associated with the terms "quality and authenticity". Start with the Maison Malartre, which off us with its exceptional know-how since 1947. These are the hand-rolled quenelles by Paul Malartre and the preserves of his wife Magdeleine who have made the reputation of this house, but it is the generations succeeding who have succeeded in preserving the spirit and traditions of the quality of an ensign found at the Halles de Lyon since 1970. In this market of excellence, Malartre houses the ban on Lafayette by offering its best products. Of course, the house quenelles hold the star and prepare with also homemade sauces according to the recipes provided with the smile by a kind seller. All the Lyonnais also know that the Malartre house is the great specialist of white, which grows in the Lyonnais Mountains and ideal for holidays. Other great house speciality, freshly prepared Bourgogne snails are sold in bulk, shells or laminated. Soups, prepared vegetables, such as caviars of aubergines, sauces, grout, fruit in syrup and jams, there are plenty of delicacies and can be found at the table of Julie and Caroline (see our Restaurant section). Please note that you can also visit the factory shop in Saint-Genis-Laval. A great wine shop in Lyon, which is essential to complete its shopping basket.

3 reviews

In a central area, just a stone's throw from Place des Breeding which lacks the good eating addresses according to us, the opening of the Plateau de Pierre is one of the best news of this guide. What could be more welcoming than the opening of a cheese factory, especially when it is held by a genuine enthusiast, Pierre Baylot, a cheese maker's son (his mother and aunt at Ambert at Le Buron for 70 years!). Once a fool always a fool because this is a conversion for Pierre who got back to his first love for the good cause: our gourmet pleasure and the sharing of his Auvergne family experience. In this beautiful little boutique, some cheeses are awaiting us according to the seasons. Working live with small producers, particularly from Auvergne, Pierre Baylot brings us on a tray a Saint Nectaire as you won't find anywhere else in Lyon (and in the surrounding). AOP cheeses of Auvergne, but also an excellent Brie de Meaux, Reblochon and a wonderful Compté (because the refiner who works with Peter, the MOF Christian Janier settled in Lyon, is a native of Jura). A region is highlighted every fortnight in a most attractive thematic window. Personalized trays with the advice of a cheese-maker who opens us the doors of the most clever addresses.

Should Nespresso still be presented? The brand of Nestlé, we must not forget, was born in… (you have a little time to guess) 1986, more than 30 years ago! Not enough to rejuvenate us, nor George Clooney, but always excellent coffees in small capsules (to recycle, it's important) with many great wines. The boutique of the Place des Jacobins has been nicely renovated, not just in elegance but also in automatism - and it is regrettable - with "machines" that issue the colored bars. Fortunately, there are still hosts and hostesses to keep advising us and discover the exotic novelties regularly proposed in our cups. Machines, crockery, delicacies, accessories, maintenance… Nothing misses to have fun around a high-end coffee. Other addresses on the Bourse, two steps from the Jacobins, and in the avenue de Saxe, just steps from the place du Maréchal Lyautey.

While France remains one of the lands of pastry -and Rue Paul-Bert has at least a famous one…-, the United States is the land of pastry. Often, when travelling to the States, in New York, you wonder why one of these famous bakeries has not opened yet in our neighbourhood. So, that's done two steps from the train station of Part-Dieu with Dorodi Pastry, whose specialty is donut. Donut, it is a little like in our country the eclair or doughnut, a real inexhaustible source of little pleasures that do not really help to lose weight but are so much fun! Donuts in tens with seasonal flavours, but the dark chocolate is timeless in our opinion, muffins and cookies that are each better than the last, as well as gourmet cheesecakes to enjoy with a homemade lemonade. The only concern is that we must keep coming back to taste everything! Note that we can find Dorodi and the charming Myriam on the markets (Croix-Rousse, Quai Saint-Antoine).

Yes, there is something divine in the beer production! So, if you became a god, the time of a brassage? This is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant addresses of this banks of the Rhône, overlooking the banks and the numerous barges. A friendly address where you can enjoy good beer, the cellar offers us many Belgian beers that are not often found, but especially an address where you can make yourself a good beer. And this is Smart. To become a brewer, just book a 2-hour slot and be a little inspired. Because if the master of the sites will introduce you to the secrets of the brewing, it will be up to you to compose your beer with the ingredients that will be provided to you according to 5 recipes: The White, the Blonde, the Amber, the Brunette and a Special season. Then, just add yeast to start the fermentation and wait 3 weeks to get your bottled beer back on which it will be taken care of to apply a personalized label. By making someone tasting your beer, you can always say, "It's me who made it" and it is always great.

AU COUDE A COUDE

Wine Cellar Wine House

It is difficult to know now whether wine merchants are classified among wine merchants or restaurateurs. For this new, very nice address of the 6 th arrondissement, this is even more complicated, since it offers local products! As well as drinking well and eating well together. Behind the counter, Guy and Odette Ecomusée give us the best welcome to taste the pleasures of the table in a warm decor where the old stones blend with contemporary and comfortable furniture. In this part, we will focus on the cellar with not only good champagnes that await us at the expense, but wines from the Rhône valley selected by a passionate man. An address to find in our restaurant restaurant with tasty plates of local produce, such as those of foie gras and terrine, this abomasa ardéchoise or this fake net and its pick of aubergines. In short, an address full of happiness.

CASA DEL GUSTO

Delicatessen

An Italian address as we love them, that is, without pretensions, held by a happy female band always smiling, in both kitchen and service. An address that we will discover with pleasure Italian cuisine (see section "Italian Restaurants"), but which also proposes at the entrance to the establishment a small grocery radius of transalpine products. We cracked for an old balsamic vinegar of seven years old, but there are older ones, olive oils, risotto, quality coffees and teas, but still cheeses, cold meats and some antipasti to take. What to prolong the happiness of stopping at this address.

Glacier

Pleasure is something to be shared. And it is not by chance that the excellent Philippe Hiriart named his house: L'Epis Curien. Philippe Hiriart is the perfect combination of the know-how of a passionate craftsman - Meilleur Ouvrier de France glacier - and the creativity of a true artist. At this address opened in 1959 by his father, Philippe Hiriart - and a whole team to whom he has passed on his values - presents us with marvelous home-made creations as many gustatory orgasms. An absolutely delightful address that we recommend.
