The highest perched of the Beaujolais crus culminates at 450 m and is rooted in a rather homogeneous granite soil. It has a beautiful carmine red colour and its nose gives off flowery and fruity aromas, combining in a complex alchemy violets and iris, raspberries and vine peaches. Chiroubles is a wine that has to be earned because the uneven terrain, which is prone to landslides, forces winegrowers to make various adjustments. It is the homeland of Victor Puillat, the saviour of Beaujolais, whose statue adorns the village square. The strange, somewhat Byzantine bell tower of the parish church is surprising in the middle of the vineyards.
