A scattered village, Chénas is centred around the Château de Chassignol, a residence that was transformed during the Restoration into a sort of Italian-style villa. Today it is the headquarters of the wine cooperative. It is the smallest of the Beaujolais vineyards with 280 hectares. Its relative confidentiality does not prevent it from being highly prized, especially since Chénas is an excellent wine for ageing. It has an intense ruby colour, tending towards garnet, it is frank in the mouth, fleshy and well structured. It develops floral and woody notes, even spicy, which develop with age. Two communes produce it: Chénas and La Chapelle-de-Guinchay in Saône-et-Loire.
