Emeringes, on the border of the Saône-et-Loire, is a pretty little village in bloom, with its 16th century dovecote and its old castle. There are some nice walks, with beautiful views of the vineyards, the Saône valley and even the Mont Blanc range on a clear day. The Sentier Victor, which links 12 villages in the Beaujolais over a distance of almost 100 km, passes through Emeringes. The beauty of the landscape is confirmed by a painting by Gustave Courbet entitled Paysage à Emeringes. Near the town hall, you will see one of the three stills used in the days of the "bouilleurs de crus" (distillers), when everyone came to have their "gnole" distilled
