As early as 811, Charlemagne's will mentions the Carolingian town of Fourqueux and its acres of vines. In the 12th century, the chancellor and advisor to Louis VI le Gros, Bartoloméo di Fulcosa, ruled over this "fern country". In 1260, a church was built on the territory, thanks to the contribution of Blanche de Castille and Saint Louis. Victor Hugo made the town famous when he discovered the area between 1828 and 1842, and rented a house for his family. A highly cosmopolitan village thanks to the presence of the Lycée International, which attracts expatriate families, Fourqueux merged with Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 2019.
