In the heart of the Chevreuse valley, Châteaufort is a small commune irrigated by the Mérantaise river. It once belonged to the Lords of Montlhéry, before becoming a Crown estate until the French Revolution. At the end of the 17th century, Louis XIV ceded Châteaufort to Madame de Maintenon in favor of the Ursulines of Saint-Cyr. The modern era marked the commune with the advent of aviation: in 1913, Adolphe Pégoud took off from the Borel airfield to the north of the village, making the world's first parachute jump from a plane. In 1973, Castelfort's Robert Buisson piloted the prototype of the Cri-Cri, the world's smallest twin-engine aircraft.
