In 1065, Geoffroy de Gometz founded the priory of Saint-Georges de Bazainville, before ceding it to Marmoutier Abbey in Tours. Today, the building is privately owned and surrounded by parkland. The park adjoins the 10th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Nicolas. Situated on the edge of the Houdan plain, this small village comprises three hamlets - Guignonville, le Lièvre and la vallée des Fosses - and several lieux-dits. To the north, it is bordered by the Quatre Piliers forest, where the ru du Moulin de Letang rises before flowing into the Flexanville river. The Sausseron river also flows through the village to the east.
