The village owes its name to its exceptional location on a ridge, which exposes it to the rising sun. Solaro also offers beautiful views, from the plain to the Tuscan archipelago. The seaside area includes the supervised beaches of La Marine, Chiola and the beautiful Scaffa Rossa. Its San-Giovanni church, whose name evokes the baptism of Jesus, has a large square stone tower, and you can also visit the chapels in the various surrounding hamlets. From the village, you can access a myriad of hiking, horse-riding and cycling trails. There's also a good local gîte d'étape.
