The commune occupies an area that includes the upper reaches of the Baracci valley. This area, made up of alveoli and magnificent rocky chaos bristling with granite needles, is closed off to the east by a mountain range and to the west by the Vadde Mala forest. Under threat from the Saracens, the population sought refuge higher up and built A Ficaniedda, around 1160 A.D. Worth seeing: the 12th-century Romanesque church of Santa-Maria-Assunta, one of the finest examples of Corsica's Pisan heritage. It is dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint John the Baptist, celebrated in June and August. It is a masterpiece of Romanesque art.
