Founded in the 11th century. Arnaud Daniel, a great Perigordian troubadour of the Middle Ages, was born in the castle; his poetic works in langue d'oc reveal the sentiments of courtly love and also serve to veil the political and social realities of feudalism. The splendid old châteaux bear witness to this lush era. This county town on the banks of the Dronne is still a trading town (1st weekly market in the département). Its economy is essentially based on agriculture (cereals, walnuts, tobacco, poultry, veal calves), but cultural tourism and leisure sports are undeniably booming.
