In the 2nd century AD, Ptolemy's map of the world used the Punta d'Orchilla as the zero meridian: it was then the end of the known world. One actually feels at the end of the world, at the tip of the last confetti of land, the most western in Europe, in the middle of a field of petrified lava that flows into the ocean, a chaos of black basalt stones. The Orchilla lighthouse stands on the south side of the western tip of the island, in front of twin red slag cones and huge black lava fields. From the top you can see the lighthouse and smaller craters below. A path will allow you to walk along the cliff.
