Sinagoga is a small fishing village of barely 700 souls. It is located on a wild coastline, beaten by the waves, about 5 km from Ribeira Grande, on the road that leads to Paúl. The name of the village refers to the settlement of Jewish settlers expelled from Portugal who arrived here in the 18th century. A Jewish cemetery can still be seen in the nearby town of Ponta do Sol. This village is also home to a small shipyard that makes the wooden boats used by fishermen. At the exit, beautiful natural pools dug in the black basalt rock invite you to swim, but only when the conditions are right..
