Lazareto is a small village located 5 km from Mindelo and is the closest to Monte Cara, a peak of volcanic origin of 490 m, one of the attractions of São Vicente. It is nothing more than a mountain whose relief, seen in profile and from a distance, reminds one of the shape of a face that some people, with a little imagination, associate with Henry the Navigator, and which has inspired artists and poets. Postcards have been made from it and are very popular. The town has a few hotels for those who prefer to spend the night in a relaxing atmosphere, away from the noise of the city.
