Capestrano is a small village at 465 meters above sea level, nestled in the fertile valley of the Tirino River. It is reached by a road with a beautiful mountainous panorama. Dominated by its medieval castle, this village of barely 900 inhabitants welcomes "green" tourists in search of nature. It is, in fact, one of the gateways to the Gran Sasso National Park and the Laga Mountains. The village is famous for its statue of the Capestrano warrior, discovered in the 1950s by a local man planting his vineyard. The statue, which dates back to the 6th century B.C., is 2.50 meters high and is now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Chieti.
