Dominated by the three rolling towers of its castle, the village of Pacentro is based on the last foothills of the Majella and defies the first mass of the Abruzzo National Park which faces it across the other side of Valle Peligna. We love this village with an irresistible charm, with its houses perched on the ridge, its medieval alleys to the hazardous difference and its palaces with Renaissance ornaments. A pleasant animation reigns around the fountain of Piazza del Popolo, surrounded by the sober and elegant facade of the church Santa Maria della Misericordia. To reach the castle, you must climb the stairs leading to the Contrada del Colle, the oldest part of the city, which even possessed its own dialect. When you get down to the centre, you will stop in front of the old lavoir wash washer. At the end of the 1970 s, we could still cross some old irreducible who washed his linen there. Finally, Pacentro is the home of the paternal grandparents of Madonna singer Madonna.
