Rare city of Abruzzo built on a flat surface, Sulmona keeps from its past several monuments of the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. It is dominated by the surrounding mountains of the Gran Sasso, but also, more modestly, by the arches of the aqueduct, a medieval legacy. Sulmona is an essential stop on a trip to central Abruzzo. The city is famous for having seen the birth of the poet Ovid, the author of The Art of Love, but also for being the capital of confetti (dragées)! First produced in the 18th century, the production of this delicacy became more widespread and industrialized with the development of sugar beet cultivation.
