Despite its small size (3,330 inhabitants), Cascia is still a little more steeped in history than other Umbrian villages. The many archaeological finds that have been made here are now preserved in the Vatican Museums and the National Library. From the medieval and Renaissance periods, Cascia has kept part of its fortifications and palaces. The past and present history of the village is deliberately linked to that of Margherita Lotti, better known as Saint Rita of Cascia, who was born in the nearby village of Roccaporena. The October 2016 earthquake also hit Cascia
