Today, the magnificent Piccolomini castle that dominates the area is a testimony to this period. You can reach it through the via del Castello, which starts with stone stairs and winds around the historic town and the castle. At the top, you will find the church square.Celano is located north of the ancient lake of Fucino, which was the third largest lake in Italy and the largest lake basin in the Apennines. In the 19th century it was drained and transformed into agricultural fields.
