Ranked among the borghi più belli d'Italia (the most beautiful villages in Italy), Tagliacozzo has an interesting historical heritage along its narrow streets. Its medieval past is closely linked to the Orsini family, who left a 14th century palace. Several other palazzi with facades weathered by time can be seen in the city, especially around Piazza Argoli and Piazza dell'Obelisco. The latter is the central square of the historic town. In its center, an obelisk surmounts a fountain that dates back to 1825. About twenty minutes from Tagliacozzo, in the heart of the Apennines, are the caves of Beatrice Cenci that are worth a visit.
