This beautiful village is located on the high plateaus, in the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park, about 20 km south of L'Aquila. The village, the highest in the Apennines, at 1,435 meters, is in a beautiful natural setting: it is a pleasant stopover, both in the winter for skiing and in the summer for going green. In the Middle Ages, Rocca di Cambio was the place where horses were changed(cambio) before continuing on their way. The 11th century Abbey of Santa Lucia, with its unique representation of the last supper of Christ where Judas is replaced by Paul, has been restored after being unfortunately damaged by the earthquake of 2009.
