Many Italian intellectuals have chosen Todi to escape from the city stress: it brings in fact the necessary calm to the creation and at the same time to be a human-sized city. They have brought a cultural breath of fresh air and have promoted the respect of the heritage in the surrounding countryside and small towns. In the Middle Ages, Todi minted its own money and ruled over the surrounding villages. It was here that Pope Martin I was born in 590 and the poet Jacopone in 1236. Surrounded by three walls (Etruscan-Roman, Roman and medieval), Todi has a very steep configuration. Do not take a vehicle in the center.
