A small town to the east of Gianyar, Klungkung is well worth a few hours' visit to discover the remains of the royal palace at Taman Gili, a charming garden, or to visit the Gunarsa Museum to the south of town. Klungkung's central crossroads is dominated by a large statue of Kanda Pat Sari indicating the four directions, flanked by a memorial to the 1908 Puputan. Near Klungkung, the village of Kamasan remains a lively artistic center known for its style of painting. Klungkung also has a covered market where you can buy beautiful basketry and other handicrafts.
