It's a pretty little fishing village with traditional Balinese houses built on either side. The vast beach has taken on the name " balian ", which means "sorcerer" (in the sense of healer) in Balinese, as balians traditionally gather in this sacred place animated by powerful forces to perform rituals. The river of the same name flows into the sea here, dividing the beach in two. Opposite the river, the beach ends in a cliff into which a small cave has been carved. On the rocky outcrop rises an altar, silhouetted against the sea spray.
