Located at the entrance to the Villé valley, the village of Thanvillé is best known for its seigneurial residence. Indeed, it was once the seat of a former Lorraine enclave, which gave the lord of the place the benefit of a right of way. Nothing remains of the 11th century fortress, as the castle was burned down several times and rebuilt from 1650 onwards, and damaged and looted during the two world wars when it served as Lazaret, it is now an amazing private property, well restored, offering accommodation and sheltering receptions. Not far from Thanvillé, there is another castle. Nestled on the Bernstein massif, its ruins are easily accessible. The mountain bike tour of the 4 castles of the Val de Villé (available at the Tourist Office) includes the one of Thanvillé.
