The early village of Triembach-au-Val probably stood at the intersection of the Salt Road (via Salinatorium) between Barr, which linked the Alsace plain, and Ehl near Benfeld. This salt route led to Lorraine via Steige, La Salcée, Saales, Raon-l'Étape and Lunéville. An ancient chapel built in the 16th century is dedicated to Saint Christophe. The keystone, dated 1619 and emblazoned with a branch of foliage, a stylized wave and a Greek cross, certainly comes from this chapel, which was rebuilt or enlarged before hostilities broke out in the valley during the Thirty Years' War. The current church, in which it is housed, dates back to 1777.
