The name Breitenau probably derives from a toponym referring to the geography of the place: it was covered by meadows. It could be translated as "wide meadow", die Au meaning "wet meadow". It's a common name on both sides of the Rhine, especially on the plains. Discover the church of Saint-Dié, the chapel known as "du bonhomme", the numerous crosses, and natural curiosities such as the Pas d'âne rock, which bears witness to the passage of Saint Déodat's donkey, which has left its mark on the stone, its master having left traces of his knees and his crozier, or the Roche des Fées.
