With its 28,000 inhabitants, it's the Algarve's largest fishing port! Effervescent and lively, Olhão, unlike other towns in the region, doesn't live on tourism alone. If you decide to stop off here, you'll be surprised by the warm welcome you'll receive from the locals, the typical architecture, a sort of casbah with white houses topped with terraces, where fish, figs and linen are dried, and the maze of alleyways. In the mornings, near the mercado, where you can sometimes see vendors grilling octopus, the bustle is in full swing. We especially like its proximity to the wild beaches of the islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol, which are a natural choice for a stroll.
