Fenais da Luz takes its name from the large quantity of hay(feno) produced here. The parish church boasts a superb carved and gilded wooden altar and an antique clock in the sacristy. The church, dedicated to Notre-Dame de la Lumière (in 1756), was built on the ruins of an earlier edifice. It was identified by Queen D. Maria I at the celebration marking the defeat between the forces of D. António, prior of Crato, and Philip II of Spain in 1582. In the cemetery stands a basalt cross commemorating Father Bademaker's missions.
