Still quiet, this small resort welcomes locals who come to bathe on the beach of Qalet Marku. at the foot of the tower of the same name, dating from the 17th century. It is from the bay of Bahar ic-Caghaq that the great fault formed when Malta was detached from the mainland a few million years ago, and which cuts the island from west to north over some twenty kilometres. Its surroundings were lined with forts built by the Knights before the English established a real line of defence there, from the 19th century onwards. In 1897, this defensive ensemble was nicknamed the Victoria Lines, on the occasion of Queen Victoria's jubilee
