23 km from the city, this village is entirely dedicated to the elaboration of the famous alebrijes, sculptures carved in copal wood and painted with many details (depending on the workshop, natural pigments are used or industrial paints with more gaudy tones). The main subjects are fantastic animals, resulting from the physiognomic crossbreeding of real species: the imagination has no limits and they often have wings and multiple limbs.
