Further south, you will come across Santo Tomás Jalieza (25 km from Oaxaca), which specializes in the manufacture of textiles using the telar de cintura, of pre-Hispanic origin: one end is attached to a tree trunk and then a belt is passed around the waist of the weaver who is sitting on the ground facing him. Take a stroll and stop in the houses of the village to observe this impressive work: the specialty of the village is the weaving of cotton strips decorated with designs in relief. These are used to make shawls, bags and doilies, among other wonders. The market is held on the same day as the one in Ocotlán de Morelos, on Friday.
