Capital of the Albanais, Rumilly was an important stronghold until 1630, when Louis XIII invaded Savoy. The center of the old districts still bears witness to this period with the Place Grenette, as well as the Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, its arcades of 16th and 17th century mansions and the Sainte-Agathe church whose bell tower dates from the 12th century. In the 20th century, Rumilly became an active industrial center, notably with skis (Salomon), toys (Vulli), and household utensils (Tefal). This dynamic city keeps the charm of a small town, in a rural environment, with a strong identity.
