The country of Filière is a territory located between Annecy and La Roche-sur-Foron. Since 2017, it has given its name to a new commune grouping several villages including Thorens-Glières. The latter has an important vernacular and historical heritage: its castle of the 11th century, several times remodeled, is the birthplace of St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622). The natural areas of the town include the plateau of Glières, which was a mecca for the Resistance in Haute-Savoie. This plateau is very attractive in winter and summer for countless visitors, whether for its Nordic area or its many hiking trails.
