Travel Guide Izieu

Not far from the Rhône, the village of Izieu could have seen life flow like a long, quiet river. But its history is forever linked to the tragedy of the 44 children of Izieu and the 7 adults who supervised them, rounded up by the Gestapo on April 6, 1944, sent and gassed in the camps. The historic site of the round-up became a memorial in 1994. The house that housed them is a place of memory, education and life to understand the crime against humanity and act against all forms of discrimination. There is a hiking loop of the Grand Thur above Izieu, which can be done in any season, in a forest landscape of the most pleasant.
