Montjoyer is best known for housing a Cistercian abbey, the Abbey of Aiguebelle, mother of the monks of Thibérine in Algeria. The Cistercian abbey is at the origin of the creation, in the 12th and 13th centuries, of the village of Montjoyer, which has kept from its medieval past a few lanes with covered passages, a piece of rampart in which opens a door that must have been that of the village. At the entrance of the village, stands an imposing white church dating from the 19th century.testimonies of history: the ruins of the square tower of Monlucet and enclosures, a fortified house having been restored, the Calmette and a Cistercian barn.
