Saint-Cannat is a pretty Provençal village that owes its name to a5th century hermit, canus natus - born white, i.e. wise, who became bishop of Marseille. But the historical figure of Saint-Cannat is without question the Bailiff of Suffren. This exceptional sailor was born in the castle, now the seat of the town hall. He served under Louis XVI and was part of all the royal campaigns, obtaining for his bravery the highest distinction of the knights of the Order of Saint John of Malta. Saint-Cannat was also on the route of the transhumance and thus abounds in fountains and wash houses. To visit the castle of Beaupré or the commandery of the Bargemone.
