On the Aurelian Way between Rome and Arles, Le Tholonet was a convenient tollgate near Aquae Sextiae in Roman times. Located in the upper valley of the Arc, it offers a breathtaking view of Sainte-Victoire. Cézanne was particularly fond of this place for its colour palette. Traces of the artist can be found at the castle, headquarters of the Canal de Provence company, at the relay, and at the exit of the village where a stele in his image stands at the foot of the mill. Don't forget to visit the dam built by François Zola, father of the famous writer. For the gourmets, the Tholonet produces the remarkable wine of Palette.
