Travel Guide Oberbronn

Oberbronn is a small picturesque village on the edge of a forest on the steep slope of the Wasenkopefle. Etymologically, this name means "the source of the High". Despite its peaceful and serene appearance, the city has always been animated by an extraordinary vitality, materialized by the passage of the Celts, the Romans and the eventful life of successive lords whose descendants of the Count of Strahlenheim decided to sell the castle to the congregation of the Sisters of the Most Holy Savior of Niederbronn. There is therefore the headquarters of the latter with the Superior General, the various assistants, the General Bursar, the Novitiate, a retirement home, a long stay and guest rooms. A meeting place to gather, recharge your batteries and forget for a few moments the worries of everyday life. The village is home to a selection of charming Renaissance-style houses with stalls and oriels. A one-hour tour (map to be obtained from the town hall of Oberbronn or the tourist office of Niederbronn) allows you to get to know this former wine-growing village, which was also a princely residence. Many of the emblems engraved on the sandstone of the lintels or posts of houses bear witness to the professions of past occupants, and it is amusing to identify the emblems of cartwrights, shoemakers, butchers, winegrowers or religious symbols. We will also notice the basement basement windows, made of sliding stones, which regulated ventilation and temperature. Oberbronn Castle, a vast seigneurial residence at the entrance to the village, is now occupied by the congregation of the Sisters of the Most Holy Savior of Niederbronn. Every year, on the third Sunday in October, the Chestnut Festival takes place, which can be enjoyed throughout the village, taking advantage of the many activities on offer.
