Bitche's history is closely linked to its citadel, which is reputed to be impregnable. In the Middle Ages, three villages nestled at the foot of the fortress, and in the 17th century, Vauban united them into a single village and gave it the name Bitche. The town was encircled by a formidable defensive system, overlooked by the citadel. Marked by wars and various German occupations, Bitche has succeeded in highlighting its historical and cultural heritage, which can be explored on fascinating tours. Incredible trails and spots, such as the Red Colorado, are a must!
