The surprising name of Sarre-Union comes from the fact that two communes were united, one called Vicus Saravi in Gallo-Roman times and the other called Villeneuve, or Neu-Saarwerden. At the death of the last duke of Lorraine, his domains were transferred to the French crown. For these historical reasons, the religious heritage is particularly rich: chapel of the Jesuits, churches, reformed temple, synagogue... You can also pass by the beautiful fountain known as the Fountain of the Goats and discover the Ville Neuve (New Town), which is remarkable for its checkerboard layout. The boat trips from Sarrewerden to Sarre-Union are another way to discover the Saar, with an original point of view.
