Verneuil-en-Halatte, a peaceful village on the left bank of the Oise, was established around the 12th century on the edge of the beautiful Halatte forest, whose renowned oaks were used for the construction of many religious buildings in the area. Its historical and architectural heritage can be discovered during a walk. The commune is known for its oppidum, an archaeological site dating back to the Iron Age, which was discovered in 1873 and dates back to about 500 BC. The Saint-Honoré church is another remarkable building. It was built in the 12th century in a Romanesque style and is particularly remarkable for its sculpted decoration.
