You're sure to fall under the spell of Senlis' cobbled streets. Very car-free, the bourgeois town center is a quiet, pleasant place to stroll among the old houses or beautiful townhouses of 12th and 13th century notables. This architectural characteristic remains one of Senlis' distinguishing features today. The town is also characterized by its Roman remains (ramparts, theaters and exhibits in the Archaeological Museum). This miraculous preservation, in a region ravaged by war, can be explained by the absence of trains, which spared Senlis from heavy bombardment.
