Campbon is, like its neighbor Bouvron, in the pocket of Saint-Nazaire and will be liberated only on May 11, 1945. It is also the city of the writer Jean Rouaud, winner of the 1990 Goncourt Prize for Les Champs d'honneur. The town has many places to visit: the castles of Campbon and Coislin, the chapels of Saint-Victor and Sainte-Barbe, the Ducherais estate, the Bicane mill and the Saint-Martin church. One of its stained glass windows illustrates the participation of the city in the formation of the Italian unity. About thirty Campbonnais left, at the call of Pope Pius IX, to join the battalion of the pontifical zouaves formed by General Lamoricière.
