The birthplace of Jacques Demy, Pontchâteau boasts the department's finest menhir, the Fuseau de la Madeleine (6.65 m high). The bridge at this point spans the Brivet and represents a crossing point between the Brivet marshes and the Brière marshes. Also worth seeing is an unusual calvary with monumental figures at a place known as "La Madeleine". Built by the great preacher Grignion de Montfort in 1710, then destroyed many times (notably by Louis XIV), it took 70 years to organize the site in its current form. In 18 stages, you can follow the Way of the Cross of Jesus through a series of sculptures. A unique visit.
