Nestled at the edge of the Landes forest, this hillside town is recognized as a green tourism destination. But its heritage is also remarkable, first of all medieval with the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church and its famous ramparts with a fascinating history. Disputed by the English, Mézin was not attached to the French crown until 1453. The vineyard reigned supreme, the wines were sent to England. History has bruised the city which was reborn in the 19th century thanks to the local gold, the cork. The city is proud of one of its children, Armand Fallières, who became President of the Republic in 1906. To visit: the theater and its fountains of the XVIIIth century.
